Aventura - The Last

Aventura – The Last
Artist: Aventura
Name of CD: The Last
Release Date: June 9, 2009

The Ney Yorican Bachata band Aventura produced a “Master” Bachata CD with some of the most exciting and romantic Bachata mixes of this century. “The Last” surpasses the wildest dreams of the most hopeless romantics.

The first two songs on the album, “Dile Al Amor” (English: “Tell The Love”) and “Por Un Segundo” (English: "For One Second") have already been huge hits for months on hundreds of Salsa and Bachata dance floors around the globe. In the first one Romeo gives advices to Cupid. Por Un Segundo is my favorite with it's mix of Modern Dominican Bachata and Indian music. The song “Su Veneno” (English: “Her Venom”) always manages to get the dance floor jam-packed. The intro of the song “El Malo” (English: “The Bad Guy”) resembles the great intro of The Fugees song “Ready Or Not”. “Tu Jueguito” (English: “Your Little Game”) is especially for the guys who had their girlfriends first abandon them (or cheat on them) and come back later pleading for forgiveness with false tears in their eyes. The lyrics are very romantic and painful at the same time. The same can be said about most of the songs on this album. The Salsa romantica song “La Curita” (English: “My Little Medicine”) completely threw me off balance. The song is so good that I have it in my current top 5 best Salsa songs of 2010. Aventura also works with several international artists on “The Last”. The song “Spanish Fly” sung together with artists like Wycleff Jean has a more R&B flow to it. “Su Vida” (English: “Her Life”) is a nice mix of Bachata and Hard Rock electric guitar.

As a “Merengue man”, I am also very impressed with the Merengue Ripiao song “Gracias” (English: “Thank You”). At the end of the song the group has a funny discussion about the band's alleged break-up. The discussion continues with the band's manager talking to a “fan” on the phone in the last track, “Skit”.

Aventura's “The Last” is a Bachata album which already has had some top hits on the international Salsa and Bachata dance floors, Latino music charts and of which some of the songs are being covered by bands. This album may even get a prominent place in Bachata history as one of the most important Bachata albums of the 21st  century.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
