Artist: Hector Lavoe
Name of CD: Hector Lavoe Greatest Hits
Release Date: February 23, 2010
Since Marc Anthony's huge succes in filming the life of Hector Lavoe and singing the artist's songs in the movie “El Cantante”, there has been a big run on Lavoe's original tracks. The Greatest Hits album of Hector Lavoe gives you the very best of Lavoe's succesful and long musical career.
One of the good thing about Héctor Lavoe's Greatest Hits is that all of the 16 tracks are real Salsa dance jewels. The third song “Aguanile” (by Willie Colon and Héctor Lavoe) is a fast paced Mambo track with an African intro and a great Cuban Rumba influence, which makes it an all time favorite of many Salsa dance choreographers (including yours truly). The heavy string and brass section in the fourth song “El Cantante” (English: “The Singer”) has a more dominant role than Marc Anthony's cover version and the song is longer (10.23 minutes!). I was completely blown away by Héctor Lavoe “El Cantante”. Great floor fillers as “Periodico De Ayer” (English: “Yesterday's Newspaper”), the Salsa Antillana “Che Che Cole”, “Mi Gente” (English: “My People”), which has a little bit more 'sabor' than Marc Anthony's version and “Todo Tiene Su Final” (English: “Everything Has An Ending”) come more to their right on Héctor Lavoe Greatest Hits album. The Cuban Son “Rompe Saraguey” (English: “Break Saraguay” ) is a song for the “real” Son Montuno dancers and it is also excellent for dancing Cha Cha Cha on it. The long piano break is - in one word - magnificent. Another Salsa Antillana, “El Dia De Mi Suerte” (English: “The Day Of My Luck”), takes you directly to the Guayana region of Venezuela. And the last song “De Ti Depende” (English: “It Depends On You”) is a wonderful Bolero which is excellent for the Latin Rumba dancers.
Héctor Lavoe's Greatest Hits album is the excellent way to get acquianted with the best the late Hector Lavoe's very diverse and groundbreaking musical repertoire. Every song on the album is a floor filler, so it is a very wise investment for all Salsa DJ's, teachers, choreographers, dancers and Latin music lovers around the world buying this album.
By the way: all of the songs I have commented on are my favorites!
