Salsa icon Issac Delgado – a.k.a. “El Chevere de la Salsa” - has surpassed his earlier productions with “L-O-V-E”. This album contains 21st century remakes of Nat King Cole's traditional Latin originals with a touch of Jazz. This Latin Jazz album is a true delight!
The first song is a Spanish version of the song “”L-O-V-E”. The intro of this “Guajira Son with Jazz” song begins with only the bass and Issac's captivating voice. Brilliant! The second song, the Cha Cha Cha “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas/ Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps” is one of Nat King Cole's best known Latin songs. The song is also excellent for dancing Latin Rumba to its tunes. The song “Perfidia” has a very romantic intro with a dramatic piano play and everyone – Latinos and Westerners alike - will recognize, dance and sing to this mega hit. “Ay Cosita Linda” is perfect for a Latin themed party at home, and the song will get even grumpy grandfathers on the dance floor. The song has that unique 'tropical vacation' vibe to it. Bring out the Pina Coladas and let us all swing along! “Piel Canela” is also very known with its catchy frase “Me importas tu, y tu, y tu”. I find Issac Delgado's redition of this song is even better than the original. The Brazilian Samba song “No Tengo Lagrimas” (“Nao Tenho Lagrimas”) falls in the same category as “Ay Cosita Linda”, but the song is also great for spicing up a “regular” party with carnival sounds.
One of my favorite songs, the Bolero “Mona Lisa”, is ideal for dancing with your loved one while imagining the two of you dancing on a moonlit tropical sandy beach at night with sea waves splashing around your feet and hearing the sound of palm trees waving in the soft sea breeze.
In my opinion, this production of Nat Chedial and Issac Delgado himself has succesfully managed to transform Nat King Cole's songs and make them fit to the 21st century standards. The many Boleros mixed with Latin Jazz makes L-O-V-E perfect as “Lounge” music, but the whole album also has great potential to become a very big hit among the millions of romantic Latin American and Salsa dancers worldwide. In time, Issac Delgado's L-O-V-E will become a classic album, just like Nat King Cole's original songs.
