Artist: Marlon

Name of CD: Homenaje A Juan Luis Guerra

Release Date: January 29, 2008

The CD ‘Homenaje A Juan Luis Guerra, a tribute to the Merengue Legend from the Dominican Republic Juan Luis Guerra, is one of my favorite Salsa Albums of all time. The sweet and crispy-clean voice of Cuban Marlon Fernandez is the perfect choice of La Calle Record Label to sing the songs, which made Guerra a worldwide phenomenon. Each and every Salsa Song is a jewel on its own. Dancers of all Dance Styles will find that all the songs on the album will make them go crazy on the dance floor.

Marlon’s voice and way of singing will make the hard-core Latinos and fans recognize the way Luis Miguel and Ricardo Montaner sing. No wonder; Marlon has been a huge fan of the Spanish Ballad Singers as a youngster. The second song on this album, ‘Bachata Rosa’ (‘Pink Bachata’), was one of my favorite Juan Luis Guerra originals during the ‘80’s and the 90’s. However, Marlon’s Salsa version of this song is one of my favorite Salsa Songs of all times. Please take in account that I have listened and danced to hundreds of Salsa Songs since 1983. I also get goose bumps, and I am sure you will get them too, when you listen and dance to ‘Frio Frio’ (‘You’re So Cold’). The original Merengue ‘Ojala Que Llueva Café’ (‘I Wish It Would Rain Coffee Beans’) was a mega hit in Latin America. Coffee is the most valuable agricultural product in many countries. Marlon renders a masterful Salsa version of this song. ‘Estrellitas Y Duendes’ (‘Little Stars and Gnomes’) and Juan Luis Guerra’ greatest hit ‘Burbujas de Amor’ (‘Love Bubbles’) gets a V.I.P. Salsa treatment from Fernandez. The first song ‘La Billirubina’ (‘The Billirubine’) and the last one, ‘Woman del Callao’ (‘Woman of the southern part of Venezuela’) are fast paced and extremely danceable Salsa Songs.

The Salsa AlbumHomenaje a Juan Luis Guerra’ is one of the few Salsa Music Albums in which all songs are potential hits. Salsa Dancers from all Salsa Dance Styles and of different generations will enjoy Marlon’s Salsa rendition of Juan Luis Guerra’s greatest hits. I am sure the Master himself is very proud of what Marlon has done.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
