Artist: Rudy Albano
Name of CD: Rudy Albano - Privilegio
Release Date: August 20, 2010
The Argentine composer and multi-instrumentalist Rudy Albano displays a huge amount of creativity in this Latin Jazz Fusion album. His experimental Jazz is very original and non-traditional: a true delight for the intelligent, eclectic and non-conformist Latin lover.
I find Rudy Albano's compositions and arrangements to be quite brilliant. The first song, Brasuca, is a sublime mix of Jazz, Bossanova, Salsa and Batucada. The Salsa part has a very clear 3-2 clave beat making the song excellent for Salsa dance musicalists. The third song – Por la musica – is what I describe as a Latin Jaz mix with an underground of Venezuelan Joropo & Waltz. The presence of Gerardo Rosales is eminent in this song. Song number 8, De todo un poco, meaning “al little bit of everything” can be described as a “Latin Jazz Guajira Son Cha Cha Cha” mix. The richness of this song makes it excellent material for Salsa, Latin and Mambo choreographers to get inspired and create a dance routine using all of these elements. The faster-paced Taurus is a delight for the “out of the box” Mambo on2 dancers. Milonga for little Romy has a Tango sound which makes it very easy to combine with Bachata to make a Bachatango dance routine. My absolute favorite is the last song on this album, called “Vuelo 0010” (“Flight 0010”). The 'Latin Jazz Salsa fusion' is excellent for both Salsa on1 and Mambo on2 dancers to get loose on the dance floor.
Eclectic listeners, advanced Salsa & Mambo dancers, choreographers and instructors will be delighted with Rudy Albano's Privilegio. However, most of the songs on this Dutch production are very experimental and the album is quite ahead of it's time. I do think that we will be hearing these songs on the Salsa dancefloor in the near future when some eclectic Salsa DJ's and dance instructors looking for the next challenge buy this great album and start promoting their favorite songs at their Salsa parties and dance classes.
