Bachata is a trendy, romantic dance originated in the Dominican Republic. Often identified by a discordant guitar line and simple arrangements with a 4/4 timing. This dance used to be forbidden, only danced in bars in the Red Light district. It later gained popularity through Juan Luis Guerra (Burbujas de Amor). It is danced within 8 counts and on the 4th and 8th count a toe tap is made, making a smooth hip move at the same side as the toe tap. There are two ways of dancing bachata; the closed position or traditional way (without losing the body contact whilst dancing) and the open position or FreeStyle (Dominican) way.
