Body Stroke ( BS )

The Body Stroke is a Styling Dance Element. This is the way Online Salsa indicates when the hand of one dance partner strokes the body of the other while doing Partnering Dance. One of the basic guidelines for Western Style Salsa dancing is: if the Leader puts the hand of the Follower somewhere on his or on her own body, the hand stays there until he breaks the contact with her hand. The Leader is not allowed to misuse this guideline though.

In the Online Salsa Dance Formula (OSDF) we first indicate who's doing the 'stroke" (the Leader -L or (the Follower - F), then the hand(s) doing the stroking (Left L- ), Right (R- ), or both hands (L—R)), and end with the Body Stroke (BS) & the body part being stroked (shoulder, waist, belly, or hips).

Example Dance Pattern: The Left Hand of the Leader strokes the belly of the Follower : L L- BS(belly). Example of a Turn Pattern including Body Strokes: Mambo O, L-R LRT w/ F R- BS(waist), Mambo O w/ Hands Up ( HU), ½ F hipLT w/ Fhipcheck , Fhipcheck 1 ½ FRT w/ L L- BS (belly), Mambo C.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
