Cross Body Hipcheck (Cbhipcheck)

Cross Body Hipcheck  is a Partnering Dance Technique. A CBCheck (see "Cross Body Check"), but with the Leader stopping the Follower with his hands on her hips. The Leader can choose to lead the Follower with one or with two hands. The key is to lead the Follower into a CBFreeturn (see "Cross Body Freeturn"). The CBHipcheck can also be lead from the hips starting from the very beginning of the Cross Body Turn (see "Cross Body Turn").

The secret to lead this properly from the hips (with 2 hands) is for the dance couple to start with a Mambo Basic in an Open Dance Position (see "Mambo Basic" and "Open Dance Position"). The Leader leads the hands of the Follower in a "Hands Up" (see "Hands Up") and grab her hips. He starts leading her in half of a Cross Body Lead, but from her hips. On the 5th count he leads her left hip a little bit away from him. On the 5 1/2 count he guides her right hip (with his left hand) towards him and he lets her hips go just in time for her to make her Walking Turns. He Follower has her hands up all this time. On the 7th count the Leader grabs the hips of the Follower making her stop in the Check Dance Position. He can choose to lead her into a 1 1/2 Mambo Right Turn (see "Mambo Right Turn") by leading her to Break forward with her right foot (Follower 4th Dance Position (1), and then pull her in his direction with his right hand on her right hip and letting her hips loose (2). Now the Follower continues to finish the 1 œ on her own (On1).

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
