Fulanito was among the first groups consisting of Dominicans, to combine Merengue (specifically Perico Ripiao) with Bachata, Reggaeton, Rap and hip hop and house.
Fania All-Stars
Fania All-Stars created music using a variety of genres, including those of salsa, boogaloo, Cuban Jazz and Latin R&B. Jerry Masucci, an Italian-American lawyer and Johnny Pacheco, a talented composer and bandleader born in the Dominican Republic, founded Fania Records.
NG La Banda
José Luis Cortés formed NG La Banda in 1986, which has become in many ways synonymous as the “inventor” of Cuban Timba music. NG La Banda became known as the music of the people, emanating from the “barrios”, the poorest parts of Havana, yet many intellectuals deemed it too dirty and vulgar to be a valid art form.
