Pretzel

Pretzel: Partnering Dance Technique. Starting from a Hammerlock Dance Position for the Followers (see "Hammerlock for Followers") the Leader makes an accent with the Left to Right Hand Hold (see "Hand Holds") down while stepping forward and behind the Follower. The Follower Breaks with her right foot to the back (1st count).

The Leader brings the Left to Right Hand Hold above and behind his own back while stepping behind the back of the Follower. She steps forward with her left foot and crosses in front of her right foot (2nd count).

The Leader steps and crosses with his left foot in front of his right foot. The Follower steps with her right foot in 2nd Dance Position next to her right foot. Now the Leader and the Follower stand "back to back". During the 4th Beat (slow) both the Leader and the Follower start turning their bodies to the left (counter clockwise, they face each other (she’s standing in a reversed Hammerlock Position: see "Reversed Hammerlock for Followers"), and the Leader brings his right arm from behind his back & over his head in front of him (4th count).

The Leader Breaks back and makes a downward accent with the Right to Left Hand Hold. The Follower Breaks with her left foot to the back (5th count).

The Leader steps with his left foot on the spot and brings the Right to Left Hand Hold from right (down) to left (up) and across the head of the Follower leading her to turn. The Follower steps with her left foot on the spot and starts turning clockwise (6th count).

The Leader steps with his right foot towards the Follower and continues to lead her into a turn. The Follower keeps turning, steps with her left foot, and makes a Backwards Walking Turn (r) (Lazy Turn) (7 and 8 count).

The Leader Breaks forward (or to the back if he wants to do an Open Break (see "Open Break")) and the Follower Breaks with her right foot to the back on the 1st Beat of the second Basic (see "Basic") (1st count) (On1). The Pretzel can also be finished with a Double Right Spin for the Follower ending in a Hammerlock Dance Position for her.

Sanne Keijzer
Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
