Vacílala MS (Vacílala Miami Style)

Vacílala MS (Vacílala Miami Style): Cuban Casino & Rueda de Casino Miami Style Dance Technique. It's nearly the same as a regular Cuban Vacílala (see "Vacílala), but with a couple of differences. The Vacílala MS starts when the Leader taps (see "Tap") with his left foot and brings the Left to Right Hand Hold (see "Hand Holds") to the right (to the centre of the (imaginary) circle) making the Follower tap with her right foot (Leader and Follower 3rd Dance Position) (8). The Leader makes a Half Enchufe (see "Half Enchufe") but starting to walk to the left with his left foot (5th Dance Position (1st count), crossing with his right foot in front of his left foot (4th Dance Position) (2nd count) and making a Forward Walking Turn (r) facing the centre of the (imaginary) circle (2nd Dance Position) (3rd count). He finishes the second half of the Basic just as he does when dancing the second half of a regular Vacílala.

It is a complete different story for the Follower! After the tap (8) she steps 45 degrees to the front with her right foot (4th Dance Position) (1st count), then she makes a Forward Waking Turn (r) (3rd Dance Position) (2nd count), she makes a Backward Walking Turn (3rd Dance Position) ending with her back to the Leader and facing the centre of the (imaginary) circle (3rd count).

She then makes a Forward Walking Turn (r) (Lazy Turn) breaking with her left foot to the back. Now she stands at a 90 degrees angle to the Leader (4th Dance Position) (5th count). She crosses with her right foot in front and across her left foot and moving outside the (imaginary) circle (5th Dance Position). She then steps with her left foot to the side and is now standing outside the (imaginary) circle (2nd Dance Position) (7th count).

She finishes by making a Backwards Walking Turn (r) (Lazy Turn) and Breaking with her right foot outside the circle on the 1st count of the next Basic (On1). At this moment the Leader will start to lead her into a regular DQN (see "Dile Que No"). The Vacílala MS is the "cornerstone" Dance Technique of Cuban & Miami Casino Dancing. The Followers start to make 2 Walking Turns during the first half of the Basic, and she makes them clockwise. With Cuban Salsa the Follower starts to make her Walking Turn later: starting on the 3rd count, only one, and it is also a Lazy Turn. And she turns counter clockwise. So the Vacílala MS makes it possible for the Leader to lead the Follower to dance more intricate Dance Techniques, Dance Combinations, and Turn Patterns.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
