Bamboleo is a 14-member timba group and one of the most talented contemporary musicians in Cuba.
Their two outstanding vocalists are:
• Vannia Borges
• Haila Mompie
This jazz influenced salsa group was formed by the bandleader Lazaro Valdez. Their name comes from the Spanish word Bamboleo, meaning movements or waves of the ocean, but it also highlights their tropical music style and rhythms. Bamboleo’s first tour outside of Cuba was in 1996, since then their fame has been unstoppable. They also contributed to the Temptations’ and won a Grammy Award for Ear-Resistable.

About the Author: Zsuzsa Melkvi is a salsa dancer and teacher, having competed in Latin-American and Standard dances from 1995-1998. She is also the founder of Baila Cuba (www.bailacuba.hu), a Dance company focused on giving exclusively pure Afro-Cuban workshops in Hungary. Zsuzsa holds a BA degree in Economics from the University of Hertfordshire.
