Carlos Manuel is a Cuban singer. Known for his salsa music Manuel has taken Cuban music to new heights. Carlos Manuel grew up to sounds related to salsa, being an unclassifiable cocktail of genres often referred to as "despelote". This mixture of Cuban music influenced him a great deal in his later endeavors as a salsa musician.
Carlos Manuel and his Clan appeared on the timba scene some years ago and became popular in the island’s dance clubs. Carlos has composed a great eal of the big genres of Cuban music and has taken them to new heights.
His original connection with his listeners transformed him into the personification of the New Cuban Sound. Carlos admires songwriters - Pablo Milanés and Silvio Rodríguez. He toured with jazz giants and pioneers Irakere, directed by the amazing Chucho Valdés, playing for weeks at Ronnie Scott’s club in London as well as at the Hollywood Playboy Festival in 1996.
Trivia:
Carlos spent all the money he saved in buying second-hand instruments for the band that he was putting together.
Carlos was the key member of the Mayohuacán group of the nueva trova style, with whom he had a huge hit singing "Carapacho pa’la jicotea", Pedro Luis Ferrer’s song.
He was voted the most popular artist in Cuba, Clan decreed the best new band, and his song "Malo Cantidad" the most listened to, in 2001.
