Frankie Negron is a salsa singer of Puerto Rican descent. Negrón was born to Puerto Rican immigrants, Francisco Negrón Santos and Zaida Gonzalez. His Siblings include a younger sister, Jackie Negrón, who is also a gifted up-coming singer and dancer, and a brother, David Negrón. Frankie was raised in New Jersey primarily as an English speaker, but developed his initial love for salsa from his father's record collection. Though he is fluent both in English and Spanish he sings almost exclusively in Spanish, but converses and jokes with his audiences in both languages.
He belonged to a group of notable young Latin singers and soneros who have woven a blend of pop, rock, gospel music, R&B, hip-hop, and reggaeton elements into their salsa.
Frankie attended Newark Arts High School in the early 90s and gained popularity as part of an R&B group called Base Harmony, singing for audiences in the NJ State Senate, Newark City Hall, The United in Group Harmony Association, and various clubs and venues around the tri-state area. The first of his seven studio albums to date, Con Amor Se Gana was released in May 1997, the most recent, being Mejor Que Nunca released in August 2006.
Trivia:
Frankie Negrón tried his hand at acting in the ill fated broadway musical ‘the Capeman’ in a supporting role and also participated in the recording of the play’s soundtrack and in 2000 starred in Val Lik's independent film, Boricua's Bond.
He has received two Gold Album awards, for Con Amor Se Gana and No Me Compares and nine Billboard Top 40 Hot Latin Tracks to date.
