They've quickly become known as one of the strongest Latino voices in Washington DC, speaking publicly about contentious Arizona immigration issues as well as their political stance about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In their highly anticipated new music video for La Libelula, Gustavo and the Universe makes no apology for their passion or ideology; both clearly resonating in the energetic, compelling and sometimes sensual arrangement.

Though, relatively new to the salsa scene, Gustavo and the Universe can be distinctly recognized for a pop salsa fusion, with lyrical rapping vocals, and hints of timba sabor! Gustavo Monje's, lead singer and song writer/producer for the band, desire to dig deep into songs and issues began when he was young.  He said, “My songs were always driven by ideological thought, love, and later spirituality.” He began his music at 11 years old.
