Born Robert De Leon Sanchez in Dominican Republic, rap/tropical artist Papi Sanchez made inroads into music at an early age, spinning other people's records as a DJ and becoming music director at various radio stations before beginning to make his own music.

His gigs catapulted him into fame and his first release, 2003's Yeah Baby!, became a surprise hit after the single "Enamorame" skyrocketed all the way to number three on Billboard's Latin Tropical Airplay chart.
