After a sound rehearsal at the Colombian based record company, Discos Fuentes, the original members formed up their ensemble based on Mario Rincón’s vision. The mission was to give a rebirth to 70’s salsa classics with new instruments and a modern sound.
The group started in effect a boogaloo and original salsa revival, taking over Latin America, the U.S., and Europe after releasing 1998's Heavy Salsa and 1999's Salsa y Fuego.
”There’s some seriously powerful stuff to be found in their music: spidery piano lines, tight polyrhythm, explosive brass riffs, staccato cowbell patterns and impossibly nasal choruses that are just too hard to resist.” ~ extract http://www.sonoracarruseles.net/
Sonora Carruseles’ music remains very popular on the salsa dancefloors. Their music has been featured in televised competitions such as So You Think You Can Dance.
