Review of the Salsa and Latin News Year 2010!

December 31, 2010 – For many Salsa and Latin lovers around the world, the year 2010 has been “like a bridge over troubled waters”. And, this has been going on – sometimes literally - during the last days of the year. Australian Salsa dancers have to cope with water floods, and the Irish have to deal with serious water shortage due to broken water pipes.

People living in Central, South American and in the Caribbean have known many ups and downs in 2010. Natural disasters such as the earthquakes in Haiti & Puerto Rico and the current floods in Colombia were alternated with the successes of Dominican Bachata music & dance in the international Latin scene, Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira's growing success after her FIFA World Cup controversial theme song “Waka Waka” and with the many international Salsa & Latin events generating millions of dollars in a year of continuous financial crises and of growing radicalism.

Watch this video clip reviewing the top events of 2010.

Mexico: Drug Wars and Latin Success
Chile has had it's successful rescue of trapped coal miners and dozens of  South Americans died due to a Cold Snap last summer. Now, the northern hemisphere is caught by heavy snowfall and deregulated air and land traffic. But, Mexico is one of the Latin countries having the most misfortunes caused by human behavior during the year we are all leaving behind. OnlineSalsa.com reported on a Grupero singer being killed and the news was filled with the drug war, which is still going on in Ciudad Juarez and in other parts of the country: 13 people were killed during the Christmas holidays , more than 12,000 murders have been committed this year and – according to figures released this month - there have been 30,000 deaths since President Felipe Calderon's massive military crackdown on the Mexican drug cartels. On the other hand, Latin America's biggest star – the Mexican Luis Miguel released a new album and the Vazquez brothers Francisco, Luis and Johnnythe inventors of LA Style Salsa on1 – are still very popular at international Salsa congresses and festivals.

Now, the city of Athens in Greece has had a bomb explosion in front of a night club and a small country as the Netherlands – with a population of  17 million -  is estimated to blast 65 million euros of fireworks tonight.

Will 2011 bring us more peace, a better financial status and much more Latin entertainment? Or will things get worse on a global scale? We will have the answers to these questions starting tomorrow, January 1, 2011.

OnlineSalsa.com wishes all a Happy New Year!

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
