The World's Richest Salsa Dance Artist of 2010!

We all know the famous Fortune 500, ranking the 500 richest companies in the USA. But, can we do the same for Salsa dance companies and Salsa artists on a global scale? This article explores various obstacles in finding the world's richest Salsa dance artist of 2010.

The growing international Salsa dance industry is one of the least transparent global businesses. OnlineSalsa.com explored some of the problems causing this lack of transparency in the following articles, “Salsa Dance & the Profiteers”, “The Illegal & Creative Economics of Salsa Dance Congresses”, “The Economics of Salsa” and “Salsa Students supporting Illegal Activities of Dance Instructors!”.

So, how can we find the richest Salsa dance artist of 2010?

The most visited Salsa websites are ranked on SalsaRanking.com, and CheckingStats.com estimates the value of the websites on their estimated traffic (amount of page views per month) and advertising revenues. Furthermore, several properties of the domain names are taken into account. This is SalsaRanking.com's top 3 combined with CheckingStats.com's estimated values of December, 2010.

1. SalsaWeb.com (Edie, the Salsa Freak): Estimated Value: $ 2,276.76
2. JustSalsa.com (Salsa Web Magazine) : Estimated Value: $ 3,235.92
3. Salsa.ch             (Swiss Salsa Portal)     : Estimated Value: $ 8,868.48

The owners of JustSalsa.com and Salsa.ch are not highly ranked international Salsa dance instructors or performers. So, we still have the same problem. As said in one of the articles above, many international Salsa dance artists do not work with official contracts. The next factor is that many of the professional Salsa dancers will not charge the same, but will vary their fee depending on the size and the reputation of the Salsa congresses and festivals hiring them. Beginning artists sometimes have to perform and/or teach free of charge and pay for their own flight plus hotel expenses in order to get noticed and grow in popularity. Other more established Salsa artists will ask a fee varying from $50.00 to $2,000.00 per workshop, performance or per weekend depending on their popularity and their track records. So, the amount of visits to congresses worldwide is not a valid indication of the absolute ranking of these Salsa professionals. And, the Salsa teachers also vary the prizes of their private Salsa classes. Many will not even put these Salsa privates in their books.

Many Salsa dance instructors having their own Salsa schools (or dance companies) and who are also Salsa congress, festival and bootcamp organizers will not publish the annual income they generate from all of these activities combined. Nor will they divulge the amount of money they earn from Salsa DVD sales, Salsa dance tutorials on their websites and other Salsa & Latin dance related products. The salaries they earn from working with popular TV shows such as Dancing With The Stars or So You Think You Can Dance are not found online.

But, having said that, I can only come to one conclusion when I combine the vast amount of services, websites and Salsa products of the most popular Salsa instructors. I estimate that the world's richest Salsa dance artist of 2010 is...

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
