How long have you been dancing for?
I have been dancing for 2,5 years.
What made you start with salsa?
I have always loved every kind of dancing. In the summer of 2008, I went to an event in Eindhoven called Fiesta del Sol. There were a lot of people dancing and having so much fun on great (Salsa) music. I was not really familiar with this style of dancing and music. So, that is when I decided to take Salsa dance lessons with my boyfriend. It was also a fun thing to do together and ever since I cannot imagine my life without Salsa dancing!
Where do you take your lessons?
I take my lessons at PuraSalsa Dance Company. I follow the lessons LA Style Salsa on1, New York Style Mambo on2 and Salsa show training.
What is your best salsa memory?
I have a lot of good memories. But,the greatest moment was my first performance with “PuraBailar” (PuraSalsa Show team) at the Christmas Palladium party of PuraSalsa.
What is your worst salsa experience?
Fortunately, I have not had any bad experiences with Salsa. So far, it has always been good.
What are the best salsa tips you have for [men/women] dancing salsa?
For everybody, dance like nobody is watching!! Just have fun, enjoy yourself. Do not be a shamed!! For the men, like my teachers always say, “please be gentle on the dance floor." Always try to look out for the woman you are dancing with so we do not bump up to other people or get stepped on our feet.
Listen to the music and timing. And for the women, let the men lead you. Do not be stubborn, just relax!!
Which song will get you up on the dance floor?
Every salsa song with a nice danceable beat will do. But, I especially like all of Marc Anthony's (Salsa) songs.
Which salsa dancer/teacher/choreographer inspires you?
At the moment, both my show training instructors - Joe Werleman and Cathleen van der Lee-Haarlo – inspire me. I have learned so much from them in a short period. They are great technical dancers and bring so much positive energy. Cathleen spins like crazy!!! I hope to be as good as her one day in spinning. And - of course - Raul and Shelina, the owners of PuraSalsa Dance Company. They are the best teachers, dancers, performers and choreographers!
Where do you see salsa going in 5 years from now?
Salsa dancing is in so many ways a positive thing. It brings a smile on peoples face, they bring people together and it is also a great exercise if you do not like going to the gym! So I think, in some kind of way Salsa will be a part of everybody’s life.
What inspires you on the dancefloor?
I get inspired by watching people having fun. And, I get tons of inspiration from all the great dancers showing their moves on the dance floor!
Lastly, if there was one salsa wish you could make, what would that be?
I wish that I can enjoy Salsa for a very long time.
