How long have you been dancing for?

I have been dancing Salsa for almost a year now. From the first lesson I am enthusiastically dancing on Salsa dance nights organized by my dance school and at other Salsa parties.

What made you start with salsa?
I wanted to take lessons for years, but there was always a reason not to. When I got an apartment next to a dance school, I had no excuses anymore!

Where do you take your lessons?
I take my Salsa dance classes at Salsamotion on the station in Haarlem (dancing between the trains). http://salsamotion.nl/index.asp

What’s your best salsa tip for a night out in your city?

Salsa dancing in Haarlem starts at the station. Every Thursday and regularly on Saturdays there is a Salsa party. Afterwards, you should go and visit Kokonoches in the center of town.

What is your best salsa memory?

My best Salsa memory would be going for a drink after my Wednesday night lesson and ending up dancing in Amsterdam until the early hours. It must be said that it was the company who
made it extra special.

What is your worst salsa experience?

One time I fell on the middle of the dance floor. I do not know what exactly happened, one moment I was dancing, the next I was sitting on the floor. The fact that my dance partner yelled out: What are you doing??? Made it extra humiliating.

What are the best salsa tips you have for [men/women] dancing salsa?

You are dancing with each other and not with the people around you, so please, look at each other and don not search for the next dance partner already. And you should be enjoying the dance, so smile a little (or a lot)!

Which song will get you up on the dance floor?
For Salsa dancing it is Marc Anthony's version of “Todo Tiene Su Final”. This always is the last song at the station, so also your last chance for a dance. For Bachata dancing, I really like the song Bachata En Fukuoka by Juan Luis Guerra.

Which salsa dancer/teacher/choreographer inspires you?

I do not have Salsa teachers or choreographers who inspire me to dance; I get my own inspiration.

Where do you see salsa going in 5 years from now?
I do not have any idea of how Salsa will evolve between now and five years.

What inspires you on the dancefloor?
I like watching women dancing who use a lot of lady styling techniques. I learn a lot from them.

Lastly, if there was one salsa wish you could make, what would that be?

I especially enjoy the crowded nights where there are so many different men to dance with, that there is no time to sit down. So I wish that there will be many of those nights in the future.
