Baila Society throws star-studded Salsa Gala

Baila Society’s “Bailando Por Una Causa” to benefit the Latino Commission on AIDS awed & inspired over 300 audience members including special guests Eddie Torres, Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza and MTV’s Carlos Santos with the best of Salsa, Tango, Flamenco and African performances.

Last May, Joseph Rivera, Co-Founder of Baila Society, a leading NYC salsa dance company, attended the annual Latino Commission on AIDS’s Cielo gala, one of NYC’s premier fundraising events at Cipriani’s Downtown Manhattan.  It was at this event, that Joseph dreamt of organizing a spectacular night of dancing to raise funds and awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Latino communities across the nation.

On Tuesday evening, October 5th at El Museo del Barrio, Joseph’s dream came true.  Over 300 people attended an incredible night of dance performances featuring the best of salsa, tango, flamenco, and african.  World renowned dancers from Baila Society, Djoniba Dance Centre, Cecilia Marta Dance Company, Nelida Tirado and Eddie Torres Jr. awed and entertained audience members including special guests Eddie Torres, 2008 Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza and MTV Tr3s’s Carlos Santos.   It was truly a night to remember and to honor the important work of the Latino Commission on AIDS.  “We are honored to partner with Baila Society and Peridance for this special event,” said Guillermo Chacon, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. “Bailando Por Una Causa represents a sign of hope, energy, support and passion to continue our prevention and education of HIV/AIDS in our communities, and we are grateful to Baila Society for leading this beautiful night of dance for a good cause.”

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
