'Burn the Floor' dance extravaganza entertains

The lights briefly dimmed and the incredible samba rhythm opening of Sergio Mendez's "Magalena" echoed through the Hobby Center and at that early moment, it was known that this dance and music spectacle wasn't joking around. Burn the Floor isn't about keeping the show even until the finale at the end, but more about showcasing the attitude and aura of the world's best dance clubs into an auditorium full of people with amazing results.

Mark Ballas of Dancing with the Stars fame is the leader of the show, and he certainly gains extra kudos for the way his legs and hips move in amazing and impossible ways. Giselle Peacock, a relative unknown, is one of the real diamonds in the rough of this show, as the only other American in this show of Aussies, South Americans and Eastern Europeans. Peacock is shorter and a bit curvier than her lithe costars, but her excitement and passion of her performance could not be matched. When she is performing, you can barely take your eyes off her, much less the entire crew.

The dances were sexy and exciting, and the real gem of the evening was the Latin remake of "Proud Mary" that really brought everyone to their feet and filled the air with electricity.

We aren't sure if this show really breaks any new ground, or just brings a great and exciting dance extravaganza with sexy Latin and acrobatic overtones to the masses, but we're glad its here!

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
