Casa Antonia has Latin workout with a twist

Recently, a group of women from the Latin workout classes of Elaine Zerafa and Pippa Roberts stopped by and instructed a group of women at Casa Antonia, Balzan (Malta) for an evening of Latin Dancing and fun. Residents were treated and encouraged to participate, even if they were in a wheelchair. Many took part, including some in armchairs and it was quite the grand event.

Residents were given enthusiastic support by the instructors to participate however they could, including sitting in an armchair or moving around in a wheelchair, no one was left out of the exciting and energetic time.

Latin women of all ages are invited and instructed by lessons that Ms Zerafa and Ms Roberts hold. They typically have lessons on Latin dance in various locations, always air-conditioned studios with parking facilities.

Dances included are: Latin American - Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. Standard - Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and quickstep.

The new year will bring us a new term for the dance instruction classes, and anyone near the area of Malta that would like to participate can call 7938 8302 for more information.

Wheelchair dancing was started in Malta in 1999. In other parts of the world it has been practiced for over 20 years. The Association was formed in Malta in 2001. The aims are to teach people in wheelchairs to dance in a similar format to non-disabled people.

Casa Atonia is a privately-owned, professionally managed residential home offering long term care and respite care. It overlooks the majestic Presidential palace and gardens of San Anton.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
