To some, Christmas time is “the most wonderful time of the year” while others see it only as a time to avoid ugly or violent confrontations with their families. Both categories will find enjoyment in the many possibilities for celebrating Christmas with Salsa!
Salsa dancers who are pretty much addicted will have Salsa music blazing from the speakers whilst decorating their Christmas trees, sing vintage Salsa songs whilst wrapping the many gifts to put under the tree, and make some mean Salsa sauce for all the delicious food. Some Salseros and Salseras will go to the so called “Noche Buena” Salsa parties organized on December 24th , while others prefer to head on to church with their families before going to the their favorite Christmas Salsa Gala parties.
Tips for having a Wonderful Salsa Dance Christmas
- Make sure to eat three hours prior to your first dance! Avoid the 'usual suspects' such as garlic and (too much) alcohol.
- Do not go to a Salsa Christmas Gala party wearing casual clothes. Try to contribute in enhancing the special Christmas feeling with fancy clothes. For men: you will want your trousers and shirt to be a little wider than usual. For ladies: cocktail dresses are great, but you and your Salsa partner will have to adapt to the limitations of the dress. Too many jewelry can get entangled and destroyed whilst dancing!
- Take extra clothes to wear after the party ends. This is a great tip for the Salsa dancers living in cold countries. You do not want to get into your car - or on your bike - wearing wet clothes and risking a cold because of a failing heat system.
Other Christmas Salsa Dance Venues
There are many opportunities for people who are single, or for Salsa dancers who just cannot fathom the idea of sitting the whole evening keeping up appearances at the family Christmas dinner with a quarreling family.
1. Organize a Salsa Christmas Party with Colleagues.
This is a great way to socialize with your coworkers and network with people/friends in your field of work whilst having fun! Organizations such as www.salsa-tropical.com from the UK can arrange a whole program in the most intimate venues.

2. Hire a Salsa Trio or a Conjunto to play at the venue of your own choice.
A small Salsa band playing live tropical versions of famous Christmas songs can be just the spark needed to get your Salsa Christmas party going! You can also hire a Salsa dance teacher to give a small Beginners workshop and to do some (easy) animations with the public. One side-effect is that your family members will be so occupied that they will not argue with each other!
The earliest Christmas Salsa parties were held around December 16th, and the last will be held on December 26 and 27. So, you can celebrate Christmas a couple of days in a row and still go to church or have that (dreaded) family dinner.
May you have a Merry Salsa Christmas!
