On Monday May 17th, 2010, the self proclaimed ‘King of Reggaeton’ Daddy Yankee pleased his fans worldwide with the premiere of his number one single Descontrol’s new music video, which is also available in 3-D on the artist’s website.
Daddy Yankee is the first Latin artist to launch a 3-D music video, asserting his claim of being always innovative and always ahead of the game.
The release of Daddy Yankee’s Descontrol music video was premiered exclusively in 2-D on Primer Impacto, which is Univision’s highest rated show. Fans were able to simultaneously go to on the Internet and see the 3-D version on his website. The millions of Daddy Yankee’s admirers can also purchase Descontrol on iTunes. 3-D glasses were available for Yankee’s fans on his website and for the ones visiting him at stores.
The video, showcasing a strong performance from Daddy Yankee, with visual effects and state of the art choreography in a modern and futuristic space setting, was shot on location at Cinema World Studios in Ney York City (U.S.A.). The artistic director of Descontrol and creative genius Carlos Perez (Elastic People) brilliantly incorporated the look and feel of Yankee’s full-length album, “Mundial” into the video clip. Acclaimed director Perez created the unique visual experience by employing dynamic camera movements and state of the art animation technology throughout the entire video. The initial reactions of fans after watching the movie range from “absolutely brilliant” to “this video doesn’t have anything to do with Reggaeton.”
Not only did Daddy Yankee want to bring something new to his fans; he also wanted to separate himself from the rest of the herd. Yankee’s passion for film making, and being an avant-garde in the genre makes him an artist who is very committed to be innovative both artistically and visually. Daddy Yankee truly believes that as a music artist one has to bring something new with every song, album or video being released.
