AMSTERDAM – Over the past 2 years the awareness and the importance of understanding and mastering salsa music is growing exponentially in the minds and souls of salsa dance teachers and their students alike. But most teachers cannot (or will not) find the time to explain and practice Musicality properly. Azucena Perez engineered the ultimate solution: the Salsa Grooves interactive software!
Since Edie The Salsa Freak – one of the most innovative and trendsetting international salsa dance teachers worldwide, introduced Musicality as ‘the ultimate way to dance Salsa’ into the international Salsa dance scene, the world has been divided into 2 kinds of advanced Salsa dancers: the so called ‘Musicalists’ (dancers dancing on and with the music) and the ‘Move Junkies’ (salsa turn pattern addicts). A secret of salsa dancing is to start learning this intricate music first. Azucena Perez who has a Computer Science major fell in love with salsa dancing and decided – after winning the Texas Salsa Open in just 6 months of taking salsa classes (!) – to pursue a full time career as a salsa dance teacher and performer. So she co-founded the Jazzy Dance Company. Perez: “Well, since I was a software engineer and my partner as well […] when we were teaching (we thought): How can we convey to our students a way to visually see the rhythms of Salsa?” She continues: “And so we decided that maybe through a presentation with PowerPoint and software that would help.[…] OK, let’s develop a program we can actually offer to the public so they can visualize the salsa rhythms, and at the same time practice with somebody counting them […] in the background. It became very popular. It has sold in about 30 countries right now.”
There was a time not long ago when most salsa dancers found it only important to find the first beat in the music and to keep breaking and dancing on the beat of their own choice or favored dance style. For the majority of ‘budding’ salsa dancers around the world this still remains the main obstacle to overcome before they can get to ‘Salsa Stardom’. A difficult task knowing it takes a lot of time, effort and patience to master the dance techniques and turn patterns they so eagerly covet. But salsa dancers are first of all ‘slaves to the music’: the music dictates how they dance together. Nowadays the ‘eye catchers’ on the dance floor are the (few) ones who are hitting the breaks in the music, following its structure, and interpreting the story they feel the music is telling them with their dance (= Musicality). The only way for lots of dancers to learn and master the secrets of Salsa Musicality has been to purchase Musicality DVD’s, attend Percussion workshops, and/or pay for Musicality Boot camps. Salsa Grooves combines the benefits of Salsa videos, music books and Timing CD’s in 1 software that is easy to use.
You can purchase the Salsa Grooves Download at 'jazzydanceco.com' for only $ 34.95. Just try it!
