The open waters have always had a magnetic attraction to humans in general. From the beginning of the 90's, Salsa party and event organizers have chosen large boats and ships to organize Salsa parties. This tradition still continues today, but on a much larger scale. "Steve the Orga" has found the right balance with his "Salsaboot Parties".
The feelings people get when dancing Salsa on a boat are diverse: the romantic atmosphere, and the feeling of not being disturbed or discovered prompts many secret lovers, honeymooners, and young lovers to party on boats. The first Salsa Parties on boats were organized – logically - in the Caribbean in the '80's. Hotel owners, boat owners, and Salsa Beach party organizers came with the idea of organizing Salsa parties on small sailing vessels where people could dance, flirt with each other, and have loads of fun in a very exclusive environment. They hired small local Salsa bands or 'Tropical Sound' formations which provided the necessary live music. These parties were very popular tourist attractions. The DJ's played all kinds of music ranging from Reggae, Steelband, Boleros, to Soca music; anything that would enhance the 'tropical' and 'Lovers Lane' feeling.
As Salsa dancing evolved, so did the Salsa parties on sailing vehicles. The parties organized on small boats which were moored close to beaches, piers, and docks found their way on open water. Salsa school owners and party organizers arranged for their Salsa parties to be held on larger ships sailing on rivers, canals, large lakes, and on the open seas. Salsa workshops on small floating boats in the Caribbean evolved into Salsa Dance cruises on larger ships combined with international Salsa Congresses & Festivals lasting for a couple of days in the West. But the unique feeling stays the same.
The Netherlands, being a 'Water Country', have had Salsa Boat parties for nearly two decades. Steve the Orga's “Le Grande Salsa”, a Dutch Salsa party organizer, found a right balance between the small and cozy Salsa Boat Parties and the much larger Salsa Dance Cruises. His “Rotterdam Salsaboot Parties” are unique, entertaining, and very enjoyable. The following videoclip is a general impression of the “Salsaboot Queens Prom 2010” Steve organized on Queens Night, April 29, 2010.
Le Grande Salsa's Salsa Parties on water has it all. For starters: Salsa, Bachata, & Zouk Dance workshops and Showcases from some of Holland's top dance instructors and performers. The best DJ's from the Netherlands spin all kinds of tropical sounds, and the live bands enhance the exclusive and romantic feelings making the guests dance until they drop. There is also a Dance shoe-stand so all can buy the latest models, and the food is excellent. The following video shows Steve The Orga himself in action, shoes, art, food, and Salsa Dance.
This year, on September 11, Le Grande Salsa will organize Europe's largest Latin Festival on the waters of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. There are 5 ballrooms with nice floors, and each of them having a different theme: Salsa Lovers, Bachata Lovers, Zouk Lovers, Latin Mix Lovers, and a Bazar & Lounge. The participants can also dance on deck, there will be live music, six Dance shows (some of theme are premiere shows), a Dance workshop, 8 top DJ's, and many attractions. The boat sails off from the location “De Tourmalijn”, which is located at Plantagelaan – wijk de Esch in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
