Many people who are now sweating heavily because of the hot summer sun cannot fathom the increasing deaths in several South American countries caused by the cold snap that is sweeping across their borders. It is now mid-winter in the southern part of South America, and all Latinos are bracing themselves for the worst.
Thirty three people died in Argentina due to temperatures dropping down to approximately -14 degree Celcius – 6.8 degree Fahrenheit – in the very heart of the nation known for the Tango music and dance. Most of the people who died in Argentina's capital city Buenos Aires were homeless. The health minister in Paraguay reported that the cold had killed nine citizens, and another three perished because of them inhaling toxic fumes emanating from coal-burning ovens. According to the estimates the Rural Association of Paraguay made, about 1,000 cattle had died for the most part in the northern part of the nation.
Paraguay's meteorological experts calculated that the harsh and cold winds & rain coming from the South Pole are expected to go on for the rest of the week. The temperatures in a couple of South American regions are exceptionally harsh for this time of the year, even if these Latin American countries are at the winter's peak. Four people were also reported to have died in the tropical side of Bolivia, where the temperatures hardly gets below 20 degree Celsius, which is equivalent to 68 degree Fahrenheit. To date, Chile has had no reported deaths due to the abnormal weather conditions, but parts of the country is experiencing heavy snowfall.
