It has been over six years since Eider Rua wrote about his ambition that he's held dear his entire life: To win a global dancre competition. Yesterday, as his troupe beat more than 100 professional dancers from all over the world, his dream came true as BNF won first prize in the World Latin dance Cup in the US. In San Diego, California, his team of 12 from BNF dance company, based in Dubai's Knowledge Village, came in first in the large groups category
A total of three international tropies were awarded BNF, which has dance schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Medellin in Colombia. All of their dancers originated at one of these schools, but their sweeping of the competiton throws a gauntlet at the others schools to step up their game or expect losses in the future.
Eider and his dance partner won second place in the cabaret section for couples, the second year in a row. Also from BNF, Leidy Henao and Luis Usma came in 3rd. 50% of the 6 couples in the cabaret final were from BNF.
Rua stated as he celebrated with his team in Las Vegas yesterday "I am so proud of my team, they did a brilliant job in the competition, and this is the result of all their previous hard work."
For serious dancers, the annual World Latin Dance cup, previously known as the World Salsa Championships, has been growing since 2005, and is THE date to circle on your calendar.
The event was dominated by Colombians, despite dancers from 40 different countries participating.

Eider Rua attributes his success to making note of his dreams. He said "I started writing them down when I was 15 because it is good to have a five-year plan. The list I wrote when I was 15 is very different to the one I made when I was 25, but coming first in the contest was up at the top."
