Juan Luis Guerra, the famous Merengue Singer/Songwriter from the Dominican Republic, had a blast by mixing seven different musical rhythms together for his latest music album ‘A Son de Guerra’ to be released on June 8, 2010. The album includes a “Spanish Rock” in which he teams up with Juanes from Colombia to sing a duet.
Juan Luis Guerra said in an interview he held with EFE in New York, U.S.A., about his joint venture with Juanes, “It has been a wonderful collaboration; we had a great time together.” Guerra was in the city recording the videoclip of the Bachata Bolero flavored song 'Mi Bendición' (‘My Blessing’) together with his group 4.40. The song was chosen as the first one to promote his new album.
According to Guerra, the Spanish Rock song ‘La Calle’ (‘The Street’) he sung together with Juanes was a result of the two of them ‘flirting’ for a long time with the idea of singing a Rock song together. ‘A Son de Guerra’ comes after three years of Juan Luis’ successful project ‘La Llave de mi Corazon’ (‘The Key to my Heart’), and is the CD with the greatest fusion of rythms the Dominican star has ever realized. Two of his hallmarks, Romantic and Social themes, are also included in this album. Songs like ‘La Guagua’, ‘Apaga y Vamonos (‘Switch Off and Let’s Go’), ‘Arregla Los Papeles’ (‘Fix The Papers’) are complemented with the song he dedicated to the Lord, ‘Son al Rey’ (‘Song to the King’), because of his religious conversion.
Guerra said about his new production, “On this album we worked with more rhythms, more than we have ever done before. There are seven of them between Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Mambo and Son. We are really happy with the final result and I know the public will like it.” He also experimented with Rock, Jazz, Blues and Reggae. Guerra continues, “Each disc is different, I always try to innovate, it is what I with each release. He also assured he experiences no pressure when writing songs for his new projects after his previous successes such as ‘La Llave de mi Corazon”.
Juan Luis Guerra who won a grand total of 15 Grammy Awards and has sold more than 15 million albums is betting that ‘A Son de Guerra’ will become even more popular than ‘La Llave de mi Corazon’ in countries like Spain.
He comments, “Spain was the first country outside of Latin America which opened its doors for us. I remember what happened to 'Ojalá que llueva Café' (‘I wish it would rain Coffee’) and 'Bachata Rosa' (‘Pink Bachata’). They have my eternal gratitude and I know they will like this disc just as they did the previous ones.
