Kalø/DENMARK –  Henrik Normann, founder of Salsaclave, is organizing the fifth edition of the Salsa Camp in Kalø - dubbed a 'suburb of Havana' - together with the Europahøjskolen. The Salsa Camp with the theme “Go Further” will be extended to four weeks this year and will last from July 4 until July 31, 2010. Yes, you are reading it well, and no, this is not a joke.

Brace yourself for a month of Cuban Dance Education and Fun together with your friendly hosts in Denmark.

Real Cuban Salsa Dance Lovers from all around Europe will not want to miss this four-week celebration of Cuban Dance, Workshops, Parties, and the unity between the Cuban and the European multicultural societies. Each night of these four weeks will have their special themes and activities such as the inauguration of the Festival Tent on Sunday evening, 'Ladies Night' on Monday, 'Theme Evening' on Tuesday, 'Open House' and 'Barbeque Evening' on Wednesday, 'The Stage is Yours' and 'Big Show Night' on Thursday, and in the end a 'Gala Party' on Friday.  The fourth week's Gala Party ends with a bang: the 'Calle Real' live concerts and the 'European Championship in Cuban Salsa' will leave all participants in complete extasy.

A Highly Remarkable & Enlightening Course

The Salsa Camp is a combination of a Salsa Festival with Danish Folk High School tradition. Salsa and dance is mixed with a number of Danish High School subjects which helps to put Salsa and dance in the perspective of being cultural, technical, musical, sensitive, a social experience, and a source of joy in everyday life. Different highly professional and didactically sound Cuban Style Dance instructors will teach 18 hours a week of intensive dance workshops in Cuban Salsa, Cuban Son & Cha Cha Cha, Rueda de Casino, Afro Mix, Bachata, and Reggaeton, as well as Modern Dance, Ballet, Hip Hop, Flamenco, Drama, and Salsa. Salsa Camp also specializes in a number of cultural workshops in subjects such as the Spanish language, Salsa band ensemble, Rhythm & Theory, Dance Culture, Films, Art History, Excursions as well as Journalism with then publication of the Salsa Camp Newspaper 'La Verdad' ('The Truth'). New to Salsa Camp: the subjects will be taught in the morning, assuming all participants and instructors will be well rested.

The workshops will be given at Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2, and Advanced 3 Salsa dance levels to make sure that everyone will get the maximum knowledge out of the instruction, regardless of their dance levels. The organizing committee of Denmark's Salsa Camp 2010 has also limited the number of participants each week to 75 women and 75 men not only to ensure an even distribution of men and women, but to also ensure enough space on the dance floor. Each dance level is required to have a minimum of 12 participants with an almost even distribution of men and women before they will be established.

Salsa Food & Bands

Some of the hottest Salsa bands in Denmark such as 'Grupo Danson', 'Little Havana', and the sizzling Salsa band from Sweden 'Calle Real' will all play at Salsa Camp 2010 as part of the colorful palette of Cuban Salsa, Cultural Workshops, Shows, Social Gatherings, Salsateque and Parties the teams of Salsaclave – the biggest Salsa school in Denmark – offers in mutual cooperation with The European College. The delicious dishes from Kalø’s haut cuisine, which draws its inspiration from the beautiful surroundings and is all mixed with countless culinary innovations, will spice up the whole event.

Optional Subjects & Salsa Jam Ensemble

During these four weeks, Instructor Martin Ollivierre will be giving jis “Jam” classes. The organization ask all participants planning to join the “Salsa Band Jam Ensemble” to indicate prior to their attendance at the camp if they would want to participate with or without their own musical instrument which they will bring to the Salsa Camp. This has to happen in order to plan the subject better. Enrollment of the Optional subjects will take place after the Salsa Camp starts.

The following is a video presentation of one of the instructors, Ariel Rios Robert.

European Week

The fourth week will be an European theme week in which the participants will get the opportunity t meet dancers from all Europe. All classes will be thought in English during this last week of Cuban Salsa fun.
Participants joining the Salsa Camp 2010 will have the best time of their Salsa lives!

Dancer Of The Week

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
