ISLA DE MARGARITA/VENEZUELA – The summer is at hand, and the tropical Caribbean sun will be shining during the whole fifth edition of Venezuela's only international Salsa Festival – the Margarita Salsa Festival - taking place from June 17 until June 19, 2010, on the touristic island 'Isla de Margarita'. Venezuela's touristic island Isla de Margarita is the ideal setting for following Salsa Dance workshops, dance to live music of several Salsa bands, and enjoy Venezuela's second International Salsa Championships.
The fifth edition of the Margarita Salsa Festival will be very special indeed.
The organization of the Margarita Salsa Festival arranged for renowned international Salsa instructors & performers such as Stacey Lopez from Puerto Rico, James Moscoso from Panama, and the Sondeluz Academy from Colombia to teach their very best Salsa Dance to the participants following the workshops. They will be teaching different styles of Salsa. Dance Aerobic classes given at the hotel will get participants all warmed up and ready to follow the Dane workshops. There are also Percussion Master Classes for the ones interested in learning real Musicality in Salsa. The Festival also has a Photo Exhibition with the title “Salsa Yesterday, Today, and Forever” on Thursday, June 17. On Friday, there will be a conference titled “The Musical Culture of the Caribbean” in the 'Gasparo Hall' of the LagunaMar Hotel. The participants will also follow a workshop in the Afro Venezuelan popular culture which features an exhibition of traditional instruments.
Competition, Shows & Live Bands
The second International Salsa Championship will have its first qualification rounds on Thursday, the elimination rounds will take place on Friday, and the Grand Finale will burst on Saturday night. Various teams such as 'Imagen Latina' from Venezuela, 'Tambor y Costa' – an experimental Folk Dance team -, and the typical dance of IACENE will all be showcased for the audience to enjoy.
The orchestra of world renowned Salsa artist Tito Rojas, Adalberto Santiago,'Bailatino', and Adalberto Santiago with his “Tribute to Ray Barreto” are some of the Salsa bands and artists performing live during the highly energized and very sensual Salsa parties.
