Making Love with the (married) Salsa Dance Teacher

In the academic and scholastic communities, teachers are encouraged by law not to have (sexual) relationships with their students. The Salsa Dance scene does not know any officially recognized set of rules and regulations. If one considers the lawlessness of Salsa Dance Instruction, the fraternization, the (erotic) attraction of the dance, and dancing together outside the instructional dance floor, then it will not come as a surprise that there is a lot of cheating going on.

Power and a high social status can act as aphrodisiacs to many men, and especially women. The married (or engaged) men who become popular Salsa Dancers, Salsa Dance Instructors, Salsa Performers and Salsa Competitors have to stay strong in their dance shoes and resist all the temptations of their willing female students. The other way around seems to pose lesser troubles: popular female Salsa Dance Instructors are in general intimidating to their male students. The fact that she is already married or engaged just contributes more to their minority complexes.

Many great Salsa Dance Couples broke their relationships because of the males not being able to control their libido. The amount of Salsa Dance Teachers cheating outside the dance floor is staggering. There seems to be a common code among Salsa dancers not to tell the wives or girlfriends about the unfaithful practices of their partners. No wonder these women are the last ones to know about the cheating habits of their men. Sometimes this unwillingness of Salseros and Salseras to be the ones doing the clicking also results in male Salsa instructors having serious relationships ‘ at the side’ with women they do not share a longtime commitment.

The problem becomes even bigger when the male Salsa and Mambo Dance Instructors/ Choreographers having a ‘macho’ mentality travel around the world to party with hundreds of women at dozens of International Salsa Congresses. The couples who teach together at these congresses have a lesser problem than the spouses who stay behind allowing their other halves to earn an honest living abroad. Some ’After’ Parties at Salsa Congresses have quite a reputation for having male Salsa Instructors exhibiting scandalous behavior like drug abuse and Salsa Sex games. This behavior is not any different from the well-known practices of (Salsa) bands on tour.

In 2010 Salsa, dancing is going back to its roots through the introduction of more sensual dancing. The growing popularity of Bachata, Lambazouk, Kizomba and Reggaeton is bound to make more Salsa Professionals forget their vows and commitments when dancing together with beautiful women who are doing their very best to the most sexy, attractive, and desirable dancers on the dance floor.

Power corrupts, but Salsa Dance power corrupts even more. With great power comes even greater responsibility, but for many male Salsa dancers this seems to be a burden which is too heavy to carry. Most Salsa dancers started dancing because of personal issues, with inferiority complex being the main one. The transitional period between being insecure to having a ‘ Salsa Demy God’ status seems too much for certain type of men and women.

This could be the time to address these issues during Salsa Seminars held at International Salsa Congresses around the globe. Students always follow the examples of their teachers. We should figure out if we want ‘nature’ to take its course, or if we would want to take actions to ensure the safekeeping of social and business Salsa Dance relationships.

This is a good article that most people should heed.
Only part I don't agree with is
"with inferiority complex being the main one." I don't believe that is the reason why people get into Salsa. People get into it bc it is great exercise, a new Skill, and of course to interact with the opposite sex compound with the fact that it is an erotic dance. so sexual interactions are almost inevitable. but the "Teachers" taking advantage due to their position, power, influence, etc and the submissive willingness or naivete of new-comers is WRONG. They are like predators cherry-picking their best prey. as they offer private instruction for "Free" or if the "Student" becomes girlfriend/boyfriend to the instructor he/she will get all the "Free" practice and learning by "Dating" the instructor. That situation also leads to the instructors having multiple "relationships" in different localities. so it is wrong that instructors engage in this kind of behavior. of course this not to say that instructors are automatically barred from Romance and relationship. but finding ONE's own couple and mate is not the same as messing around cherry-picking all the juicy fruit.
but what is really unforgivable is when instructors get into extortion where they threaten to break off any ongoing relationship if the other person doesn't give it up and thus the access to the dance "instruction" will be cut off. And even Worse than that is when some instructors actually start scamming the students "Borrowing" money from them. Never having the intention to repay it. also they get them to pay for the instructor's travel expenses especially when when the student will be in competition and the partner is the instructor. they force the student to incur all the expenses Even when the Instructor will be in a competition of his own separately. but the Ultimate is when instructors Force themselves onto a student after being deceived and lured for Sex. forcefully restraining and copulating becomes rape.
so the sexual attraction, the consenting sex among adults is legal, and Cheating on spouses although morally wrong and possibly illegal (adultery) it is not a "Crime" but deceiving, luring, and forcefully engaging in sex is rape and definitely a crime as in the mess that a certain salsa instructor is now. and since Salsa is now a World phenomenon; these are incidents that the whole world will know. However, I should point out that this problems is NOT exclusive to Salsa dancing. in fact, it is more prevalent in "Ballroom dancing" the difference is that in Salsa there is passion of youth and inexperience that makes all this more open and visible. coupled with the fact that Salsa scene is relatively new So no real History or rules have been written. in Ballroom has been around a lot longer and history and experience has long been written or learned. the participants are generally older and experienced. Keen to scandals and liabilities. The instructors are FOXY and more discrete, but still picking the "juiciest hens".
I'll bet that the rest of the Salsa instructors will continue their predatory practices but will be more discrete, sly and foxy from here on as the rules, history and experience in the Salsa scene are beginning to be written.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
