It has been a long time practice: Salsa school owners hiring freelance Salsa instructors to teach and entertain their potential clients who are attending their free Salsa open houses and try-outs. This results in Salsa students not getting the instructor they expected to see. Teachers quit mid season while stating that they had “differences” with the dance school owners, and the students get (temporary) instructors instead.
Why? Because of opposite goals.
Salsa dance school owners aspiring to have as many clients and generate as much profit as they possibly can. The professional Salsa dance teachers, however, are working hard to earn a decent living. These mutual goals can lead to great success.l The delicate balance between Salsa employer and employee can be easily destroyed. Salsa Dance started as a sub culture and grew into a worldwide industry in a relatively short period just before the economic crises. But, the current economy is not the only factor in causing these 'changes in interests' between a Salsa school owner and his dance instructor. As a potential client, you can prepare yourself by signing an iron clad contract in which the Salsa school owner agrees to “deliver the Salsa teacher for the whole season or pay the rest of your money back” before you follow the first Salsa class.
Growing Competition
Competition between the amount of Salsa dance schools is growing exponentially, and it is currently evolving in a much faster pace than the amount of potential clients does. The consequences of this asymmetric growth have been getting worse during the past five years. For example: a Salsa instructor quit his job in the middle of the Salsa course and copied the whole student database of the dance school. He managed to use this valuable information to start teaching elsewhere and convince “his” students to come and follow his classes at his new location in another city. Another case involves a Salsa teacher who demanded an immediate raise in her salary, and yes, it also happened mid season. When the owner refused, the teacher quit her job and followed the same “Modus Operandi” as her colleague in the previous example. The break- up between a Salsa employer and his or her own teaching staff is mostly caused by money and ego related issues.

Try to imagine the two guys in the following video clip as being a Salsa school owner and his Salsa instructor sharing and competing against each other to win the heart of the girl, who in this case will be the living embodiment of Salsa.
