There is a saying in Salsa Land, which goes like this: ‘One Two Three, Five Six Seven, Salsa Girls all go to Heaven’. Men run to the toilet after rubbing their lower bodies for minutes against seducing girls. Some men get their trousers wet with fluids emanating from the shivering and quivering women with whom they are dancing.
Is this fantasy or fiction? No, these are actual situations happening in real life on the social dance floor.
The connection between Salsa and Sex is very strong. Salsa Music often acts as a channel fueling sexual appetite and desire. The public watching the Salsa Dance Artists making Sexy, Sensual, or Erotic Dance Moves when performing their Salsa or Mambo Dance Routines applaud or cheer them on. The lyrics of most Salsa Songs deal with the glorification of Love and Romance, which, as we know, are human extensions of basic and natural sexual needs and appetites. The lyrics can be very explicit in Salsa Romantica, Salsa Erotica, Reggaeton and Bachata. The title of the famous Salsa Erotica ‘Devorame Otra Vez’ (by Lalo Rodriguez) means ‘Devour Me Once More’.
The Cuban Rumba Guaguanco used to be a ‘Wedding Dance’. The Cuban Son, the ‘heart’ of Salsa, gave dance couples a chance to flirt with each other without the guardians of the young girls noticing this ‘illicit’ behavior. The Latin R(h)umba is also called ‘The Dance of Love’. Some women declare dancing Salsa sometimes feels better than having a real orgasm, and many men start dancing Salsa to get real orgasms.
The Salsa Dance scene has changed dramatically in Western society since the 80’s and early 90’s when the search for a compatible Sex mate and Sexual Attraction were the main reasons for a night out to a Caribbean or Latino Club. The dance crowd was a mix of adults with an average age of 30+, and most Western women dancing at these venues were not familiar the combination of ‘sweet talk’ combined with exquisite dancing. Many of these naïve women exhibited behavior they did not know they could and ended up making love to men they had just met a couple of hours ago. The music was for the most part slow allowing the dancers to stay ‘glued’ to each other for hours.
After the mid 90’s, Salsa evolved and became a means of attracting attention. The public became younger (average age: 20+) and the women were focused on being special, respected and admired for their Salsa and Mambo dance prowess. Heterosexual men start to dance for four reasons: to (finally) be laid by attractive women, or because they are being blackmailed by their spouses or girlfriends, (‘You can forget this pussy if you don’t go to Salsa Dance classes with me’). Some do it because they truly like dancing, or because they long to get the same respect and popularity male dancers have (= power trippers).
The search for a sex partner in Salsa Dancing is smaller in the larger cities. The sexual aspects of Salsa become larger in the smaller communities such as small towns and rural areas. The relationships formed after meeting each other at Salsa bars tend to last longer in these smaller communities: they stop dancing Salsa when finally getting their ‘catch’. The big cities have too much temptation, so the (sexual) relationships tend to be short-lived, except if the couple shares interests outside of Salsa.
It is uncertain if the sensual and erotic Bachata Dance will change these parameters in the near future.
