The international Salsa scene saw the popularity of the sensual Kizomba dance – which started around 2008 - grow exponentially in 2010. The music and dance, originally from Angola, appeals to Salsa, Bachata and Brazilian Zouk dancers.
It is logical that Brazilian Zouk dancers would take a fancy to Kizomba, because the music – which was created in Angola between the late1989 to the early 1990's and made popular in Portugal – is directly derived from Zouk music and is sung in Portuguese. The corresponding dance has the same sensuality as Zouk (love) dancing, but Kizomba dancing has Semba at its roots. Salsa dancers who became modern “sexy and sensual Bachata dance aficionados" also see many similarities between Bachata and Kizomba. For instance, Kizomba is called “Tango's African Cousin” due to the basic stance and some basic dance steps of Kizomba being similar to that of Tango dancers. Bachata dancers and instructors are not only incorporating more sensual dance moves into Bachata, but they also “borrow” dance techniques from each other. Many Bachatango (= Bachata combined with Tango dance elements) dance moves can be traced back in sub-genres such as Bachata Moderna, PornoBachata and Bacha-Sutra. Kizomba is therefore quite easy for Bachata and Bachatango dancers to learn and master.

Kizomba Love Explosion in 2011
The global success of sensual & sexy Latin dancing will continue in 2011 with Kizomba taking a more prominent spot at Salsa congresses, festivals and parties. For example, Kizomba has a very prominent place in the program of the fifth edition of the Finland Bachata Festival 2011. We can also expect the popularity of Kizomba stars such as Iris de Brito from London (UK) and Nuno & Vanda from Portugal to grow immensely in 2011.
