Tips for the Ultimate Salsera Hairstyle

Written by Evie Boerhout for OnlineSalsa.com

Sweaty locks of hair sweeping around. Or, neatly tied together with a colorful string or bow with fake flowers. If you look across the dance floor you see lots of different ways to wear your hair. I love to  walk around and observe others for new ideas. These ideas are all about trying out different ways to wear your hair, outfits and shoes.

The funniest thing to look out for on the dance floor is the reaction of the guys - making funny faces - when the lady turns around or executes multiple spins whilst her hair is slapping them across their faces. But at the same time, the “hair-sweep” also gives that extra special effect to the ladies' turns en spins.

And you will also see that there are many woman picking the easy and practical way out when choosing their hair styles. The hair is mostly tied up into a bun, trimmed short, or they wear it in a ponytail. In my opinion, the choice of one or more of  these non-creative options are actually making the Salseras  miss out on the fun of going out. And, I will repeat what I wrote before in my article about “woman and shoes”:  I like to dress up for a night of Salsa dancing. And my hairdo is also a part of the total look.

It is not easy when - like me - you also have to deal with half-long hair. I was crazy enough to cut my shoulder-length hair into a stylish bob. The problem is the period after your hair starts to grow again. But, I can be very creative, so I discovered a couple of ways to wear your hair, whatever length your hair is. I hope you will have fun trying them out. And let me know what works for you and which tips you have problems executing.

Bind your Hair Together into a Pony Tail and Accessorize it with (a) nice Fake-Flower(s)

Braid your hear on front from a little bit the center to the other side (close to your ear). Let the rest of your hair hang out. This is the perfect way if you want to hang your hair down but still want to see the guy your dancing with after a couple of spins.

Wrap your Hair into “Rolls”

It takes a little practice but, after you get the hang of it, this hairstyle will become an ideal solution if your hair is a little greasy and you do not have time to wash it.

Create a Bang in front and Bind the rest together in a Ponytail or Bun

I must admit that it does not look good with every face. Just try it out and take a good look in the mirror before you go out.

The following Hair Tutorial explains a different hair-dress.

Dance because you like it and show that. Own the dance. A good student can copy the teacher but a great dancer learns and then makes it her own. So, create your own style and do your thing. And very important: dare to dance!
