Wisin & Yandel accused of committing Plagiarism

PANAMA – On Friday April 9, 2010 the Judicial Branch in Panama announced the opening for a criminal prosecution against the Puerto Rican Reggaeton rappers and superstars Wisin y Yandel accused  of having committed Plagiarism at the expense of Nando Boom, a singer from Panama.

The judge Rolando Quezada Vallespi said in a statement he sent to the ANP that “the offence being investigated is fully accredited”, and that the  Judicial Branch also ordered the official notification of this decision to Juan Luis Morena Luna (Wisin), Llandel Veguilla Malave (Yandel), and two other music producers being prosecuted for their alleged copyright violation. The first hearing is scheduled to be held on October 12, 2010.

Last week the court conducted a preliminary hearing at which the lawyers of Wisin and Yandel were also present. Producers Eliel Lind Osorio (Eliel) and Josias De La Cruz (Nely) are renowned producers of Reggaeton music. Now they also are being accused of committing plagiarism. The accuser, Nando Bloom, started the legal process against Wisin & Yandel, Domn Omar, and others artists in April 2008. This group, including their publishing companies, are all being accused of alleged unauthorized use of a part of his song “Love Sick” on MySpace.

Recently Don Omar sent an email to the ANP saying how he longed to sing in Panama after resolving this problem with Nando Bloom. He explained how since his own childhood the music of Panama had “inspired my life and ushered me into the musical world in which I enjoy doing my profession today.” Nando told the local TV channel Telemetro about the manner in which Daddy Yankee intervened for him to reach an accord with Don Omar. The Panamanian singer said “Don Omar is my friend”. And according to himself Don Omar had said “Nando Boom is my idol”.

Nando Bloom has since decided to withdraw his lawsuit against the performer of hits like ‘Angelito Flies’ and ‘Pobre Diabla’. But he maintained the charges against Wisin & Yandel and rejected their proposed offer of $100,000 to settle the case.
